An Aurora man arrested this week in a 7-year-old murder case was ordered held in lieu of $1.5 million bail Tuesday.

Jose R. Salinas, 28, of the 900 block of South Kendall Street appeared in Bond Court after being arrested Monday morning at his job in Montgomery on murder charges in the shooting of Luis R. Donatlan on May 8, 2000.

Donatlan was shot about 2 p.m. as he rode in a vehicle near Woodlawn Avenue and Gale Street on Aurora’s west side. Police said Salinas fired several shots from a vehicle, striking Donatlan in the lower back. When Donatlan was shot, the vehicle’s driver, who was not injured, took him to a hospital.

Police said charging documents indicate the two men were gang rivals.

The case is one of several unsolved homicides a joint Cold Case Task Force has been investigating since the Aurora Police Department and the FBI formed it in 2004.
