Few things are certain in life, but Driscoll winning a state football championship is becoming one of them.

With a raucous Highlanders crowd extolling their team’s virtues with a banner declaring “Brotherhood of the Rings,” the Driscoll dynasty marched on Friday night with its sixth consecutive state championship–35-0 over Breese Mater Dei in Class 4A.

It was six in ’06 despite losing 19 starters from last year’s 4A champion. Next year the Highlanders have nine returning starters.

“Why not seven, why not eight, why not nine?” said Highlanders quarterback Phil Pedi, who threw three TD passes and has won four championships. “You want to keep bringing it in and passing the tradition down.

“After we won it last year, the seniors came over and told me: `Now, it’s up to you.’ I was really nervous [Friday], and I’ve been here three times before.”

Driscoll keeps winning because of guys like 6-foot-1-inch, 270-pound nose tackle Anthony Senese.

“I was a third-stringer last year, and I worked out like crazy in the off-season and went to speed camp,” Anthony Senese said. “There’s a feeling at Driscoll that if you work real hard, you’ll put a ring on your finger.”
