Martha Ann Armitage, 96, died on April 2, 2001 in Baltimore, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on April 4, 2001. Miss Armitage was born in Chicago on April 21, 1904, the daughter of Lewis L. and Ellen Ward Armitage. She received her teaching certificate from Chicago Normal Institute and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Loyola University of Chicago. Miss Armitage’s professional career in teaching and educational administration in the Chicago Public School system spanned 45 years. At the time of her retirement in 1969, she was Vice Principal of the Arnold School. During her lifetime she fully enjoyed the arts and cultural life of Chicago. She travelled extensively in the U.S. and abroad. Prior to moving to Baltimore in 1996, she was an active member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish. Miss Armitage was predeceased by her parents and two brothers, Charles and Richard. She is survived by two nieces, three nephews and eight great-nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
