The head of the men’s tennis tour Friday attacked the controversial Grand Slam Cup, saying organizers were being selfish and destructive with new plans for the game’s most lucrative tournament.

Mark Miles, chief of the Association of Tennis Professionals, which runs most of the men’s tournaments, said moving the Munich event from December to earlier in the season would upset the sport’s crowded calendar.

“It’s a self-centered decision,” Miles said. “It is putting another big event in the middle of a crowded season. It puts an obstacle to the flow of events.”

The Munich tournament, which pays out prize money of $6 million, brings together the top performers from the four Grand Slam events.
