Businesswomen, frustrated because the country’s male-dominated business lobby council has not promoted an agenda for women, have formed their own lobby group, the Australian Business Council of Businesswomen.

The council will commission research into women’s participation in Australian business as a first step toward setting a women’s agenda.

Council board member Poppy King, who runs a lipstick-manufacturing firm, says the male-dominated council failed to promote women to its board because women were not represented in senior positions within the council’s member companies.
