Sara Lee Corp. elected Julio A. Barea a vice president of the corporation. Barea is president and chief executive of Sara Lee Underwear Co. He reports to Kirk Beaudin, senior vice president of Sara Lee Corp. and chief executive of Sara Lee Knit Products.

Gov. Jim Edgar appointed Guy Chipparoni to the board of directors of the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority. Chipparoni is president of public affairs at KemperLesnik Communications and was Chicago press secretary to Edgar during his tenure as Illinois secretary of state. The authority operates McCormick Place and Navy Pier.

Glenn D. Steele Jr., M.D., Ph.D., was named president-elect of the Society of Surgical Oncology, based in Arlington Heights. Steele is dean, biological sciences division, University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine. He is also vice president for medical affairs and the Richard T. Crane professor, department of surgery.

Humphreys Inc., a Chicago-based accessory company, appointed Lawrence F. Fleming president and chief executive.

Jane Mathews Denman joined Whittman-Hart Inc., an information technology services provider, as vice president of human resources. She was most recently director of human resources for Case Corp., a Racine-based manufacturer.

Milliman & Robertson, an actuarial amd consulting firm, created a Chicago Casualty Practice and named Howard Cohen and Douglas Nishimura to lead the unit.

Hyatt Hotels Corp. named Anne Hanch vice president and Jeff Mulliken assistant vice president of Rosemont Purchasing Co., a Chicago-based affiliate. Hyatt Hotels also named Dean Petersen assistant vice president of catering and convention services; Eve West director of human resources; Steve Enselein director of catering and convention services at Hyatt Regency O’Hare; and Philip Stamm corporate director of rooms.

John S. Lloyd, vice chairman of Oak Brook-based Witt/Kieffer, was named chairman of the Association of Executive Search Consultants. Witt/Kieffer is an executive search firm specializing in health care and education.

Chapman and Cutler law firm elected the following to partnership: Daniel J. Favero, corporate finance group; Steven C. Mason, environmental group; Lisa A. Olson, banking group; Gary R. Polega, employee benefits; Carol K. Thompson, banking group; and Anthony D. Yager, corporate finance group.

Martin J. Sterr was named structural engineer/architect and Christopher A. Frye designer at Phillips Swager Associates, a Naperville architecture, engineering and planning firm.

Holabird & Root, an architectural, engineering and interior design firm, appointed Mark VerHalen director of interior design, Thomas Laskowski director of mechanical/electrical engineering, and Scott Georgeson an associate.

Columbus, Ohio-based Healthcare Research Systems Ltd. named Debra Bachman director of national accounts in its new Chicago office.

Howard Eirinberg was appointed divisional vice president/ general manager, Enesco brands marketing, for Enesco Corp.

George H. Cross joined Dain Rauscher as a vice president-investment officer in its Chicago office.
