A decision about a controversial vote that has divided the Boy Scouts of America Council of Chicago and several suburbs was put off Wednesday.

The governing board of the Chicago council decided to hold an election in March in a fourth attempt at breaking an impasse over selection of the organization’s leaders.

The council has been divided in recent months over a plan to sell parts of the council’s 7-square-mile summer camp, the Owasippe Scout Reservation, near Muskegon, Mich. Some members also say the council leadership has not consulted with members.

The board met Wednesday, trying to decide what to do about an election held a week ago, in which a slate of candidates was defeated for a third time.
