Disney and Marvel Studios will release the sequel to “Captain America: The First Avenger” on April 4, 2014. Thursday’s announcement said the project will pick up the story line from Marvel’s “The Avengers,” which launches Stateside on May 4, while in some major overseas markets, the film bows as early as April 25. Date marks a notable shift in the distribution world, essentially kick-starting the domestic summer sked, which typically begins the first weekend in May, a month early. Sony already has called dibs on May 2, 2014, with Marvel’s “Amazing Spider-Man” sequel. Marvel’s set to open two titles next year — “Iron Man 3” on May 3, 2013, and “Thor 2” on Nov. 15, 2013. “Captain America: The First Avenger,” directed by Joe Johnston, opened last July and grossed $176 million domestically and $190 million internationally.
