Population growth in suburban Cook and the five collar counties stalled to what is easily the slowest rate since 1950, according to new data released Aug. 12 by the U.S. Census Bureau.

Though it’s not a collar county, Kendall County, located about 50 miles southwest of Chicago and home to communities including Oswego and Yorkville, was Illinois’ fastest-growing county, growing nearly 15%, according to the AP.

Cook County

The population in 2020 was 5.28 million, an increase of 1.6% since 2010.

 

DuPage County

The population in 2020 was 932,877, an increase of 1.7% since 2010.

 

 

Kane County

The population in 2020 was 516,522, an increase of 0.2% since 2010.

 

 

Lake County

The population in 2020 was 714,342, an increase of 1.6% since 2010.

 

 

McHenry County

The population in 2020 was 310,229, an increase of 0.5% since 2010.

 

 

Will County

The population in 2020 was 696,355, an increase of 2.8% since 2010.
