I find it highly ironic-and more than a little sad-that the suspension of operations at the Chicago Theatre is happening at the same time that a new multi-seat entertainment venue is being planned (some would says

”threatened”) for the south suburbs.

Couldn`t the backers of the proposed south suburban theater be persuaded instead to take over operation of the Chicago? Can they really make a case that their proposed theater will be in any way ”better”? Or will it just be ”bigger”-with all the traffic and environmental problems that implies?

It could just well be that the Chicago-north Indiana area has reached the saturation point as far as large-scale entertainment complexes are concerned. We already have Poplar Creek, the Horizon, the Holiday Star, the Arie Crown and several smaller showcases for ”name” acts.

The Chicago Theatre is well worth saving. Could the same be said, 50 years from now, about any of its current or future competition?
