Mr. Schmid`s letter on May 10 regarding fur coats blatantly ignored one tasteless fact: A fur coat is nothing but a statement of fashion and prestige. When cows, fowl, lamb, etc., are slaughtered, virtually every part of their bodies is used. Their meat is a main staple of our diet and their outer coverings provide us with everything from woolen sweaters and leather gloves to pillows and jackets. There is no waste, and no single, selfish purpose to their slaughter.

When Mr. Schmid begins eating mink and chinchilla liver for dinner every week, perhaps we`ll stop ”whining.”
