Citibank restored service at its 2,000 automated teller machines on Wednesday after they were shut down intermittently for a second day by computer software problems. The company’s online banking services remained out of commission.

In a statement, Citibank said “the ATM network has been restored at all Citibank locations, and we expect to resolve all remaining issues shortly.”

Citibank spokesman Mark Rodgers said he was not sure when online banking operations would be restored.

“We made our first priority the ATM network,” he said.

Citibank is one of the largest consumer banks in the country, with roughly 2 million retail customers.

The bank said it put 500 service representatives into its branches to assist customers during the outage, which began about 4 p.m. Central time on Tuesday.

The bank urged its customers to use bank tellers or to get cash from other institutions’ ATMs, saying it would refund any fees paid for alternative services. Those fees range between $1 and $1.75, depending upon the ATM.
