– Clemente 12, Near North 8-Harry Maldonado had two 60-yard touchdown runs and knocked down a fourth-and-goal pass at the 3-yard line to end a Clemente threat with time running out.

– Curie 36, Tilden 14-Nelson King (12 carries, 120 yards) scored three times, including once on a 65-yard run, for Curie.

– Crane 24, Foreman 8-Solomon Booker scored on a 20-yard run and added a 40-yard touchdown pass to Andrew Durham. Joe Branch added a 40-yard touchdown jaunt for Crane.

– Du Sable 16, Englewood 14-Du Sable built a 16-0 halftime lead on QB James Robeson`s 13-yard TD run and Dwight Cannon`s 15-yard TD run and held on.

– Fenger 14, Harper 6-James Bryant, who completed 5 of 6 passes for 186 yards (including an 80-yard touchdown pass to Ron Anderson), hit Robert Queen with a 5-yard touchdown pass with :05 left to win the game.

– Harlan 16, South Shore 8-Malcolm McCanns (16 carries, 94 yards) scored on a 27-yard run and Terrell Williams and Al Lomax combined on an 80-yard TD pass for Harlan.

– Holy Cross 7, Proviso East 0-Holy Cross, 1-8 a year ago, scored on a 5-yard run by Larry Aikin in the first quarter. The defense did the rest: Ralph Esposito recovered a fumble to snuff one drive and Proviso gained just 80 total yards and seven first downs.

– Joliet West 12, Stagg 0-Mark Zanders hit Clayton Ferguson with a 54-yard scoring pass and Dion Hornsby (24 carries, 149 yards) added a 5-yard TD run to propel Joliet.

– Lincoln Park 20, Hirsch 6-Wayne Hardy scored on a 40-yard run, Derron Franklin on a 17-yard run and Tony Berry on a 7-yard interception return to lead Lincoln Park.

– Niles North 34, Morton 0-Lunnell Britton had 20 carries for 146 yards and three touchdowns to lead Niles North to an opening win. Ninos Hermiz had three fumble recoveries for Niles.

– Phillips 42, Kelvyn Park 0-Derrick Randolph (seven carries, 118 yards) and Dushonne Triplett (11 carries, 102 yards) keyed the offensive explosion. Randolph scored from 25 yards out in the first quarter and Triplett added a 40-yard burst and a 35-yard fumble recovery for a TD.

– Rich East 41, King 14-Sophomore QB Quincy Woods completed 8 of 11 passes for 155 yards and threw for two touchdowns, including a 44-yarder to Derek McCoy, to pace host Rich East.

– Ridgewood 55, Austin 12-Tom Pagilaro (28 carries, 190 yards) scored the game`s first three touchdowns and added another in the third quarter for Ridgewood. QB Bob Amelio (9 for 10, 120 yards) added an 11-yard scoring pass to Paul Zienciuk. Jerome Wilkens scored twice for Austin, which managed just 98 yards against the Ridgewood defense.

– Roosevelt 10, Kelly 0-Yamil Pena hit Andre Williams with a 42-yard touchdown pass for Roosevelt.

– St. Joseph 37, Proviso West 6-St. Joseph scored the first three touchdowns of the game and coasted. John Salka had a pair of short touchdown runs and threw a 53-yard TD pass to Brandon Kelly as the visiting Chargers took a 21-0 lead after one period.

– Walther Lutheran 34, Westmont 18-Sophomore RB Tirrell Robinson rushed for 133 yards on 11 carries and had five punt returns and kickoffs for 168 yards for Walther. Robinson scored on a 76-yard punt return and a 24-yard run.

– Wells 7, Farragut 0-Lewis Montalvo scored on a 1-yard sneak with :27 left to win the game. Montalvo (9 of 19 passing for 131 yards) set up the touchdown with a 30-yard pass to Walter Halycz. Francisco Campos had two interceptions for Wells, including one in the end zone.
