In your editorial on July 7, you stumbled on the problems of the Supreme Court because of the use of two old-fashioned definitions of ”conservative” that are obsolescent, if not obsolete. The modern definition (since about 1932) is exemplified with great beauty by the recent Supreme Court decision on sodomy.

A conservative is ”one who believes that government should get off the backs of business (particularly big business) and into the bedroom where it belongs.” This problem arises because this term is often a euphemism used by the media to replace the more objectionable term ”reactionary” when referring to the ideas they are pushing; and to their friends, such as Ronald Reagan; and to themselves.
