British police Monday arrested a suspect in connection with an attack in which a man was nailed to a wooden cross and doused in gasoline.

The suspect, a man in his 30s, is being held at a police station in north London, a Scotland Yard spokesman said. Police said they were “keeping an open mind” regarding the motive for the attack on the 20-year-old man, who is in stable condition in hospital after being abducted with a friend Saturday night.

The victim was nailed to a makeshift cross and doused in gasoline. His eyes and mouth were also taped shut. A friend of the victim was dumped outside a pub in Northolt in northwest London. He had been tied up but not badly assaulted, police said.
