A homicide investigation was under way Saturday after a South Side man died late Thursday of injuries he suffered in a beating two years ago, authorities said.
Sergio Correa, 28, of the 6000 block of South Troy Street was pronounced dead at 10:54 p.m. Thursday in Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. The cause of death was pneumonia and head injuries suffered in the beating, said a spokeswoman for the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Correa and another victim, 20, were beaten with a metal pipe and a baseball bat Dec. 1, 2005, in the 500 block of West 40th Place, Chicago Police Officer Laura Kubiak said. The condition of the other victim was not available. No suspects have been identified, Kubiak said.
