The Plainfield Village Board last week awarded a contract for $240,000 to “D” Construction of Coal City to resurface DesPlaines Street from Lockport Street to Chicago Street.

The work, which is to be completed by Juley 14, also will include resurfacing an alley south of the Bryant Building.

Local business owners asked the board to allow angle rather than parallel parking along one side of the street to permit six more parking spaces.

The board initially said it is seeking land for a parking facility and didn’t want to pay for a short-term need. When village staffers said the cost of allowing the angle parking was only about $1,100 higher, angle parking was approved.
