Although I am not a resident of the 27th Ward, I do have an opinion about the Bears Stadium proposed for the West Side.

Why is it that the poor people are always the ones who are asked to make sacrifices?

Michael McCaskey wants more luxurious skyboxes so that he can make more money. William Wirtz has a lot of vacant land that has no value except to him, and he has found a way to enhance the value of this property. And the developers only are interested in how much money they can make.

Does anyone in his right mind think that a sports stadium is a thing of beauty? It is not! The City of Chicago and the State of Illinois always manage to find money for sports stadiums.

If they are really interested in developing the area around Chicago Stadium, there are better ways to do it than displacing poor people. Whether you are displacing 1,000 or 5,000 people–one displaced family is one too many.
