Monday, Jan. 15, is a federal holiday to honor the 67th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birth. The following public services are affected:
– Schools: Most public and private schools in Chicago and the suburbs will be closed.
– Government offices: All federal, state, county and city offices that do not involve emergency services will be closed.
– Postal service: There will be no mail delivery.
– Courts: Federal state and county courts will be closed, except for holiday bond court in Chicago.
– Banks, S&Ls: The Chicago Clearinghouse, which handles bank-to-bank transactions, will be closed; individual banks determine their own hours.
– Financial markets: Most will be open.
– Parking: Chicago meters must be fed.
– Transit: The CTA, Pace and Metra will operate on normal schedules.
