The Ela Area Public Library is collecting used eyeglasses and hearing aids to support the efforts of the Lions of Illinois Foundation.

“All donated items are checked, labeled and refurbished for use nationally or internationally, wherever there is a need for them,” said Ed Kubicki of the Lake Zurich Lions Den.

Kubicki said the local chapter has been collecting used eyeglasses for 60 years.

“Thanks to our patrons, we’ve already turned in a full box in less than a month,” said Kathleen Lovelace, director of special services at the library. “The Lions have donated equipment to help our vision- and hearing-impaired patrons over the years, and now we can continue our partnership by becoming a collection site.”

Patrons may drop off used eyeglasses and hearing aids in the collection bin across from the reference desk in the library, 135 S. Buesching Rd.
