WMVP-AM’s celebration of its 20th anniversary as ESPN 1000 will not be limited to TV and radio’s Mike Golic and Trey Wingo doing their national simulcast Friday from Austin’s Fuel Room in Libertyville.

The station plans to have its other daytime shows broadcast there as well.

“This is what we’re calling our ESPN ‘fanniversary,’” ESPN boss Jim Pastor said, a 14-year veteran of the station.

All 13 hours of programming — “Golic and Wingo” (5-9 a.m.), “Kap & Co.” (9 a.m.-noon), “Carmen & Jurko” (noon-2 p.m.) and “Waddle & Silvy” (2-6 p.m) — will be open to the public on a first-come basis. Doors are scheduled to open at 4 a.m.

“We’ve got some surprise guests, we’ve got a band there, we’ve got some familiar voices over the years with ESPN 1000,” Pastor said.

Fans in attendance will be eligible to win what’s being described as “MVP” access at the event.

The occasion not only marks 20 years to the day since WMVP became the first major market station to rebrand and adopt a full-on ESPN identity, but it’s also the 20th anniversary of Golic’s debut as an ESPN Radio host.
