This is in response to the June 18 article by Rabbi Stewart Weiss in which he presents his opinion as to U.S. policy in the Middle East in general and makes disparaging comments about Jordan and Saudi Arabia in particular. Israel is, of course, the innocent party concerning the peace process, according to the rabbi.

His last sentence reads, ”Let us reserve our generosity for friends who really talk and act like friends.”

I submit that Israel, which is on the U.S. dole, has caused more trouble for the U.S. than the cited Arab states, which are not.

The cited Arab states have not sold U.S. arms to Iran, have not violated international law, have not been caught in spy activity against the U.S. and have not been involved in ”the largest arms smuggling conspiracy in U.S. history.” The quote is from a statement by Rudolph Giuliani, U.S. attorney, N.Y. district, and pertains to the Avraham Bar-Am recent arrest by U.S. officials.

The rabbi mentions ”our generosity.” Saudi-Arabia did not ask for a gift such as we provide to Israel. The Saudis are to pay for the arms approved for sale by the U.S. What generosity?
