The horrible shootings that occurred last weekend at the hands of Benjamin Smith are just one example of how the gun laws we have in place here in America do nothing to protect innocent people.

I can’t believe that two people died and nine others were injured, because despite the fact that Smith was unable to buy a gun the first time around, he was able to buy not one but two guns from an illegal gun dealer. It’s also surprising to know that even though the dealer was under federal investigation and federal agents suspected the dealer of having a high volume of weapons, they did nothing to prevent this incident from occurring.

The time has come for us to stop turning our heads when there is evidence of a person performing an illegal act, in this case illegally selling guns, and to take some type of action against that person. Whether it’s new gun laws or longer jail sentences, something has to be done because if we don’t do something now, another tragedy will happen again.
