From 2001 to 2003, three young sisters were sexually assaulted by their father’s cousin, who admitted the crime to Chicago police.

Hugo Sanchez was charged with 88 counts of sex crimes and initially detained on no bond, but when a bond of $50,000 was allowed, Sanchez fled.

In 2008, authorities interviewed the girls’ father, who told them Sanchez was in Acapulco, Mexico.

The father had family there who saw Sanchez repeatedly and recently, according to a federal warrant and a Tribune interview with a family member. The relative provided a street address for Sanchez’s mother. Despite that information, Sanchez is not on a list of fugitives for whom Cook County prosecutors are seeking extradition from Mexico.
