The Buffalo Grove Village Board on Monday night unanimously approved a plan by the municipality’s Economic Development Task Force to reinvigorate retailing in the village.

The plan recommends appointing a business ombudsman to be a liaison between the business community and village government, but does not recommend a standing economic development commission at this time.

“It felt an extra layer of government was contrary to creating a business-friendly environment,” said Lee Szymborski, assistant village manager, who presented the task force report to the board.

The next step is to “put the meat on the bone,” Szymborski said–to identify a budget and steps to implement the plan.

The plan recommends that the village identify and address obstacles to business development, and to support existing businesses in the village.

The task force also called on the village to help reduce the community’s retail vacancy rate.
