Apple’s Web site on Tuesday reported shipping delays of four to five weeks on all models of the new iPad 2 — regardless the color, memory size or 3G capability — just four days after its release. Availability may be better at some retail locations. Think scarcity drives demand? There may not be an app for that, but there’s certainly a business model.

Butt out

Heavy-smoking rates have declined significantly in the U.S., according to this week’s Journal of the American Medical Association. From 1965 to 2007, the most recent year included in the study, those who consumed a pack a day declined from 56 percent to 40 percent of all smokers. That figure excludes California, where aggressive efforts have brought the figure to 23 percent and would’ve brought it lower if not for Charlie Sheen.
