The first in a series of activities and programs highlighting Chicago’s Latino community opens Thursday at the Chicago Children’s Museum on Navy Pier.

“Magic in the Trees: Woodcarvings from Oaxaca,” features woodcarvers from the Mexican state and their works, called alebriges, ranging from baby monsters and dancing roosters to cats, coyotes and animal people. The hands-on exhibit allows children to make their own alebriges, dress up in traditional Oaxacan clothing or play Mexican games.

Admission is $5. Family memberships start at $45 and admit two adults and four children for a year. For additional information and hours, call 312-527-1000.
