Naperville has selected the acclaimed novel “Life of Pi” for its annual Naperville Reads program, a citywide initiative to encourage families to read.

Author Yann Martel will discuss the book, which won the 2002 Booker Prize, as well as his latest novel at 7 p.m. Jan. 13 in Pfeiffer Hall on the campus of North Central College.

Four book discussions are scheduled around town: 7 p.m. Monday in the Spring Meadows Senior Residence, 504 N. River Road; 7 p.m. Tuesday in Anderson’s Bookshop, 123 W. Jefferson Ave.; 7 p.m. Thursday in Nichols Library, 200 W. Jefferson Ave.; and 10 a.m. Jan. 10 in the 95th Street Library, 3015 Cedar Glade Drive.

“Life of Pi” is the story of a young Indian boy, the son of a zookeeper, who is shipwrecked with several animals.
