Manny Pacquiao (41-3-1) handed Erik Morales the worst beating of his career before stopping him in the 10th round of their 130-pound showdown in Las Vegas. It was the first time Morales (48-4) had ever been knocked out.

– University of Houston basketball coach Tom Penders was taken from the court during a game with UAB and treated after complaining of lightheadedness, disorientation and dizziness. Penders fainted but returned at the start of the second half. Officials called a technical foul on Penders, apparently thinking he was reacting to a foul call.

– Northwestern’s Brett Basanez hit Hofstra’s Marques Colston with a desperation pass at the 1-yard line with a second left, but the East fell 35-31 in the East-West Shrine Game in San Antonio. Arkansas’ De’Arrius Howard was stuffed short of the goal line on the final play. Texas A&M’s Reggie McNeal threw two TD passes for the West. Basanez went 6 of 13 for 89 yards. . . . Illinois State defensive end Brent Hawkins was the MVP for the East in its 10-7 win over the West in the Hula Bowl in Honolulu. Notre Dame’s D.J. Fitzpatrick kicked a 36-yard field goal for the East.

– The Green Bay Packers promoted defensive ends coach Bob Sanders to defensive coordinator. . . . Former Buffalo Bills coach Mike Mularkey has been offered the job as offensive coordinator of the Dolphins, according to a source. . . . The Browns promoted offensive line coach Jeff Davidson to assistant head coach.
