Eric Stonestreet is now royalty.

No, he’s not marrying a duchess, but he’s now officially part owner of his favorite baseball team, the Kansas City Royals. Last Thursday, Major League Baseball’s board of governors unanimously approved the sale of the Royals from David Glass to a group led by local businessman John Sherman and that group, as The Athletic initially reported, includes Stonestreet.

Stonestreet confirmed the news in a tweet expressing his excitement.

Stonestreet, who has starred as Cam in “Modern Family” since 2009, is an avid Royals fan who was born and raised in Kansas City and graduated from Kansas State in 1996. He played a role in getting Royals legend George Brett to make a cameo appearance on “Modern Family” in 2018.

The team he’s now part owner of, however, is very bad. After winning the American League pennant in 2014 and World Series in 2015, the Royals have racked up three below-.500 seasons in the ensuing four years and lost more than 100 games in each of the past two seasons.
