This country worries a lot about weight. We diet, worry about portions and leap on and off of scales like so many bunnies. But there’s real danger coming to town on Thursday, in the presence of Sunn 0))). This is a group — Stephen O’Malley and Greg Anderson at its core — that makes music of soul-crushing heaviness. The duo use sound and volume in an effort to arouse a trancelike state of being in which your body and soul are throbbing in tune with one of the band’s massive riffs. If you had to label Sunn 0))), they would be drone metal. We prefer to think of them as an element, Sn0, almost certainly in the alkaline earth section. In concert, the group wears dark robes, pumps in the fog and plays at a volume sufficient to upset the Earth’s axis. The group is touring behind its latest disc, “Monoliths and Dimensions” (Southern Lord), featuring vocals that are as heavy and doom-drenched as the group’s music. This show will be greatness. 9:30 p.m. Thursday, Empty Bottle, 1035 N. Western Ave. $15; 773- 276-3600 or ticketweb.com.
