WASHINGTON — Three Illinois airports have received more than $18 million in grants for infrastructure improvements and upgrades.

U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin announced the grants Wednesday. The money comes from the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The largest grant is $11.6 million for Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport. That money will pay for efforts to reduce noise affecting nearby public buildings.

Chicago/Rockford International Airport received nearly $6 million to pay for improvements to a runway there.

Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport received a little over $1 million for rehabilitation work.

Durbin says the money will help the airports serve travelers more safely and efficiently.
