1986–Completed his second major league season with a .250 average in 159 games, a 23-point drop from his A.L. rookie of the year season in 1985. In 1986, however, he improved his RBI total from 33 to 47 and hit a pair of homers after notching just one in his first season. He committed 22 errors in `86, 10 more than his outstanding rookie year, and his fielding percentage dropped 10 points to .970. . . . Guillen was second on the club behind Harold Baines with eight game-winning runs batted in.

Personal/Miscellaneous–Considered the key to the 1984 off-season trade that sent pitcher LaMarr Hoyt and a pair of Sox farmhands to San Diego for Luis Salazar, Tim Lollar, minor league pitcher Bill Long and Guillen. . . . Originally a switch hitter, Guillen has hit exclusively from the left side the past two years.
