Padres 1, Astros 0: Edinson Volquez continued his dominance over Houston with his first career one-hitter and host San Diego took three of four games in the series.

Volquez (6-7) allowed only an infield single to Matt Downs in the top of the fourth inning and improved to 6-0 in eight career starts against the Astros.

The Padres scored the gameâ??s lone run in the first inning when Alexi Amarista hit a leadoff double off Lucas Harrell (7-7) and scored on Logan Forsytheâ??s single to right.

Volquez threw 117 pitches with three walks and five strikeouts in the 591st and final meeting between the Astros and Padres as National League foes.

Harrell, who threw a complete-game six-hitter against the Padres on June 27, was the hard-luck loser after giving up one run on four hits over seven innings.

The Astros have lost 16 of their last 18 games and fell to 10-38 on the road this season.

Volquezâ??s bid for the Padresâ?? first no-hitter in franchise history was foiled by Downsâ?? hit on a check swing back to the pitchersâ?? mound, which Volquez was unable to handle.
