On their third CD, “Worksongs,” Los Angeles sextet Quetzal successfully bridges the gap between various Hispanic musical traditions and contemporary pop and rock. The disc, produced by Los Lobos saxophonist Steve Berlin, is a bilingual effort focusing on aspects of working in contemporary America. The appealing vocals of Martha Gonzales and the multi-instrumental talents of Edison Gianesi, Quetzal Flores and Dante Pascuzzo (who play a total of 34 different instruments on the CD) make for a diverse, accessible disc. -Also out this week: Asterix, “Dogma”
