Ray Barreto

Handprints (Concord Picante) (STAR)(STAR)(STAR)(STAR)

Ray Barreto is one of the toughest guys in salsa. His nickname, ”el hombre de las manos duras” (”the man with the hard hands”) doesn`t just refer to the callouses he has accumulated playing congas, bongos and other robust hand percussion in his many years of playing. Barreto`s music hits hard. A salsa veteran of nearly 40 years, he has played sessions with just about every salsa notable, from Tito Puente to Willie Colon, and his love for and understanding of jazz are long and deep. In this collection, he brings a fine sense of detail and an enduring passion to his version of salsa and Latin jazz.
