Reggie Bush, who was previously stripped of his 2005 Heisman Trophy honors, reportedly finally returned his copy of the famous trophy to the Heisman Trust, according to ESPNLosAngeles.com.
A spokesman for the Heisman Trust told the web site in a phone interview that Bush had personally returned the trophy “some time” ago and “has it in their possession,” a fact Bush reiterated in an interview on the nationally syndicated “Dan Patrick Show.”
Bush received his copy of the Heisman Trophy shortly after winning the prize in December 2005. When the NCAA issued sanctions against USC for violations in June 2010 that included Bush and his family, the school began a path that eventually disassociated itself completely from Bush. That included the school returning its copy of the Heisman in August 2010, removed all references to Bush at the school’s Heritage Hall and took down his jersey, which had been hanging in the Trojans’ home stadium, the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
Bush had said shortly afterward that he had agreed to forfeit his copy of the trophy and that he would return it to the Trust, but it apparently took him nearly two more years to do so.
Bush told Patrick in the interview that he has no plans to visit USC anytime soon.
“I haven’t wanted to go back,” Bush said. “I don’t feel like that’s an issue. Even if it was, I wouldn’t go back.”
