The Republican primary race for the 11th Congressional District was too close to call late Tuesday as Nick Stella and Tonia Khouri led the three-way race to challenge Democratic incumbent Bill Foster of Naperville in the general election, early unofficial election returns show.

With 405 of 445 precincts reporting, Khouri and Stella were almost tied in the Republican primary race with 36.9 percent and 36.8 percent, respectively, late Tuesday, according to unofficial returns. Herman White followed with 26.3 percent.

Khouri, of Aurora, has served on the DuPage County Board since 2012. White, of Naperville, has worked as a Fermilab physicist for more than 40 years. Stella, of Darien, works as a cardiologist.

The 11th district stretches from Aurora east to Burr Ridge and south to Joliet, hitting parts of Naperville.

Meanwhile, in the 8th District, Democrat Raja Krishnamoorthi was leading the primary race late Tuesday to take on Republican Peter “Pete” DiCianni for the seat currently held by U.S. Rep. Tammy Duckworth, according to early unofficial election returns.

With 384 of 495 precincts reporting in the 8th Congressional District, Schaumburg businessman Krishnamoorthi led the three-way Democratic contest with 58.1 percent of the vote as of press time late Tuesday. State Sen. Michael Noland, of Elgin, conceded late Tuesday. Noland and Villa Park Village President Deborah Bullwinkel followed with 28.8 and 13.1 percent, respectively. The district includes parts of northwest Cook, northeastern DuPage and northeast Kane counties.

DuPage County Board member Peter “Pete” DiCianni of Elmhurst was the only Republican candidate remaining after the Illinois State Board of Elections in January removed his three challengers.

Surrounding the 8th District to the north, west and south is the 6th Congressional District, where two Democrats and two Republicans were running for the chance to represent their parties in November.

Republican Gordon “Jay” Kinzler of Glen Ellyn challenged GOP incumbent Peter Roskam of Wheaton. Kinzler is a surgeon and lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve and serves on the Glen Ellyn Park District Board.

For the Democrats, Robert Marshall, 73, of Burr Ridge competed with Amanda Howland, 63, of Lake Zurich. Marshall works as a radiologist, while Howland serves on the College of Lake County board.

As of press time late Tuesday, Roskam led with 68.9 percent of the vote in the Republican primary, and Howland led with 67 percent in the Democratic primary with 474 of 618 precincts reporting. Kinzler trailed in the Republican race with 31.1 percent of the vote. Marshall trailed in the Democratic race with 33 percent, according to early returns.

The 6th District curves around to include parts of Lake, McHenry, Kane, DuPage and Cook counties.

Moving west to the 14th district, three Democrats were competing for a chance to unseat Republican incumbent U.S. Rep. Randy Hultgren of Plano.

Competing in that race is Jim Walz of Gurnee, a board member for Warren Township School District 121. John J. Hosta is an entrepreneur from Spring Grove, while Plainfield’s Jesse Maggitt works as a business operations efficiency manager.

In that district, Walz led the Democratic race with 43.2 percent of the vote with 298 of 465 precincts reporting as of press time late Tuesday. Hosta and Maggitt were behind with 37.6 and 19.2 percent, respectively, according to unofficial vote totals.

The 14th district starts at the Wisconsin border and stretches south to include parts of DeKalb, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry and Will counties.
