Sidney A. Block, 90, a longtime Chicago businessman, died Friday in Lake Bluff Health Care Center. Mr. Block was born near Taylor and Halsted Streets and graduated from Harrison High School. He then worked in a family business, Block Manufacturing, which made metal cabinets. After the business went bankrupt during the Depression, Mr. Block joined a brother in making women`s clothing and was among the first to advertise on television in the 1940s. Survivors include two sons, Bernard and Roger; a sister; two grandchildren;
and four great-grandchildren. Services will be private.
