The Clinton nuclear power station, scheduled to go into commercial operation Tuesday, will become the state`s 12th operating nuclear reactor. Illinois Power Co. said the $4.25 billion plant, near Clinton in central Illinois, finished a year of tests and shut down Oct. 15 for evaluation. It is the only nuclear plant owned by the power company, which is headquartered in Decatur and serves about 540,000 electric power customers in a 15,000- mile area.
