On Wednesday, the School of Architecture is hosting a free lecture and demonstration by writer/artist/musician Paul Miller, better known as DJ Spooky That Subliminal Kid. Miller’s presentation is based on “Rhythm Science,” his collection of recently published essays.

His writing also has appeared in New York’s Village Voice and other publications. For information, call 312-996-3335.

DePaul University

Local and national dignitaries from religious, educational, political and professional arenas are expected to participate in the inauguration of its 11th president, Rev. Dennis H. Holtschneider, on Saturday evening. The hourlong ceremony will include a 35-member orchestra, proclamations from city and state officials and a processional with faculty, Vincentian fathers and members of the board of trustees.

University of Chicago

Last week, the College Council unanimously approved a proposal to expand the all-night study space in the Reg from the A-level to the first floor. According to the Maroon campus newspaper, if the proposal passes in the Student Assembly with both college and graduate councils, the first floor of the Reg would be open all night during finals week this quarter.

In the future, the all-night space will be open Thursday during reading week, then Monday through Wednesday during finals.

Northwestern University

For the third time since the program began in 2001, administrators have announced plans to overhaul the school’s diversity requirement, known as Essential NU. According to the Daily Northwestern, the school hasn’t finalized the plan, but some possible changes include required readings or a required book with discussion sections. Under the current plan, students can choose from a variety of events and speakers on campus that fulfill the requirement.

Loyola University

On Thursday, Student Nurses at Loyola is sponsoring an all-day hair drive in support of Locks of Love, the non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to disadvantaged children suffering from hair loss.
