A 17-year-old has been identified as the victim in a fatal shooting at an apartment building Friday night in Waukegan.
The victim was identified as Dayviontay T. Jackson of Waukegan, according to Comdr. Joe Florip of the Waukegan Police Department.
Police were called at around 8:30 p.m. Friday to the apartment building in the 400 block of McKinley Avenue for a report of a young man shot in the common area of the facility.
Police found the victim at the base of a staircase and he was pronounced dead at the scene, Florip said. Investigators believe the incident stemmed from a verbal argument that escalated into a shooting, according to reports.
Florip said Monday investigators with the Criminal Investigations Division were working multiple leads in the case. He said no other information would be released at this point.
