Coach: Barry Alvarez.

Record at school: 21-23-1 (.478), 11-20-1 (.360) Big 10, four years.

1993 record: 10-1-1 (.889), 6-1-1 (.813) Big 10, tie first place.

Returning starters: 17: offense 9, defense 6, kicker-punter 2.

Players to watch: TB Brent Moss, QB Darrell Bevell, DT Mike Thompson, WR Lee DeRamus, C Corey Raymer.

Top newcomers: DB Damon Glenn, DB Jason Suttle, LB David Lysek, DL Al Jackson.

Outlook: Badgers averaged more than 200 yards per game both rushing and passing last year, but Bevell’s passes to DeRamus were just icing on the cake. The Badgers’ chances to repeat as champs depend on Moss’ running. Badgers under Alvarez are 18-5-1 when they outrush opponents and 3-18 when they are outrushed. Moss should move the ball. He has three All-Big 10 veterans up front-TE Michael Roan, G Joe Rudolph, C Raymer. Playing Michigan and Ohio State on the road hurts chances to repeat.
