World Boxing Council featherweight champion Jeff Fenech was involved in a wild brawl in the ring after a title fight in Darwin, Australia. More than two dozen people were involved in a melee in the ring after Fenech`s training partner, John Siriotis, was stopped in the 10th round by Australian light middleweight champion Steve Peel. Fenech charged from ringside after Siriotis became involved in a pushing match with his former trainer, Ken Couzens.

Shortly after the fight was stopped, Couzens appeared to say something to Siriotis in the center of the ring and a brawl broke out. During the brawl, Australian super-flyweight champion Peter Mitrevski was hurled from the ring onto a concrete floor, where he briefly lay unconscious. Bouncers, police and ring officials attempted to quell tempers.

”It was something silly to be involved in, but I just did what anyone else would have done,” Fenech said. ”I was trapped in the middle of the ring with people going crazy all around me. I jumped in to stop the incident before it got bad, but in all the confusion some bloke had grabbed Peter and was choking the life out of him from behind. I was trying to help him and some bloke threw him out of the ring onto his head. What was I supposed to do?”
