Feeling a little undead, are you? Getting hungry for a hunk of human flesh? That wicked zombie lifestyle is a favorite for Halloween this year, brought on in part by an infatuation with the gory horror-comedy hit film “Zombieland.”
But even the very proper Jane Austen has been drawn into the bloody fray with a horror revision of her classic novel, now charmingly — if incongruously — titled “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.” The cover illustration is captivating and worth emulating.
Meanwhile, zombie purists are sticking with the resurrected corpses of a simpler time, modeling their costumes on the cult classic “Night of the Living Dead.” That 1968 low-budget indie film popularized the zombie in American culture (and used chocolate syrup to simulate blood because the movie was shot in black-and-white).
Finally, if your inner zombie cries out for a local angle, with the help of a team of homegrown ghoul experts, I’ve created a special Chicago Loser zombie. It features the city’s 2016 Olympics bid, the Cubs and the Sox. The living dead? You betcha.
