Citation issued in fatal crash

A woman was issued a traffic citation in connection with a crash on the South Side on Saturday that killed awoman and severely injured a 7-year-old boy, police said Sunday. Tasha Johnson, 34, was cited with failure to yield on a left-hand turn after the 9 a.m. crash at Ashland Avenue and 95th Street. Bobbie Williams, 65, was trying to cross Ashland when Johnson’s car struck a vehicle in the intersection, police said. That vehicle veered and struck Williams, then the boy, police said.

6-day-old baby dies

A 6-day-old girl born after her mother was involved in an auto crash died Saturday, authorities said. The child’s mother was a passenger in the vehicle, which was being driven by her husband. The vehicle was headed south in the 1000 block of North Lake Shore Drive and lost control as it rounded the Oak Street curve, police said.

Reprieve for homeowners

Gov. Quinn signed legislation Sunday that gives delinquent homeowners facing foreclosure a grace period of up to90 days. The bill gives people extra time to work with lenders. The legislation prohibits lenders from beginning foreclosure proceedings within the first 30 days that a homeowner is delinquent. After that, lenders have to tell homeowners that they have 30 days to seek counseling before action begins.
