Economic indicator: A new report published in EDK Forecast, a monthly trends newsletter, indicates that nearly three-fourths of American women do not have much confidence that the U.S. economy is rebounding. More than half of the women polled by the New York-based research firm EDK Associates say the national economy is not good, and 20 percent say it’s in bad shape. “I think women are a good economic barometer because they hold the purse strings and spark a lot of economic growth through consumer spending,” says Ethel Klein, president of EDK. “When you look at how they’re spending, women are practicing recessionary coping strategies.”
