Padres 2, Astros 0: Joey Hamilton got a shutout and his major-league-leading fifth victory because San Diego manager Bruce Bochy wasn’t quick with the hook.
“I want these guys to close out a game,” Bochy said after the Padres won in San Diego. “I want them to know that it’s their game there in the ninth.”
With runners on first and second, Hamilton got Derek Bell to hit a chopper to third baseman Ken Caminiti, who stepped on third to start the game-ending double play.
