A standoff ended on the Northwest Side Friday afternoon with the arrest of a man who’d been holed up inside a Northwest Side home with a crossbow, police said.

The man was arrested without incident about 3:30 p.m., according to police.

The standoff began about 9:30 a.m. when police were called to the scene in the 6300 block of West Roscue Street because of a possible intruder, said Chicago Police Area North Patrol Cmdr. Dean Andrews, in remarks to reporters at the scene.

Police went to the home and “they made contact with a female occupant of the residence. While they were talking with her, they heard sounds of a male occupant (who) possibly needed medical attention. They tried to gain entry, and as they were doing so, a male occupant of the home confronted the officers with a crossbow. The officers successfully were able to safely back out of the residence and called for the assistance of the Chicago Police SWAT Unit,” Andrews said.

The SWAT team was “able to make contact with one of the residents inside the house. After lengthy discussions, they were able to convince the female occupant to exit the home, which she did.”

“She provided officeers with information that the remaining occupant of the house, the male occupant, was possibly in need of medical attention.

“Based on the that, a decision was made to have the officers enter the house, and render medical assistance, if necessary,” said Andrews.

The officers went in and found the man, and were able to “bring him out safely and successfully.” Andrews said.

Both the woman and the man were being treated at the scene about 4 p.m.

Andrews didn’t answer questions about whether the woman was a hostage, but said more information was likely going to be released later, as police were still on-scene investigating.

“An armed adult male is holding two people inside a residence against their will,” said Officer Janel Sedevic, a spokeswoman for the Chicago Police Department, earlier.

A SWAT plan was dispatched, said Sedevic.
